Proud Paws
General Feeding Guidelines

  • Always observe your pet's eating habits. Changes in eating habits may indicate that they are not feeling well or may have dental problems.

  • Provide clean, fresh water at all times.

  • Label feeding directions are intended only as guidelines.  Adjust the amount of feed offered to maintain normal body weight and condition.

  • Do not overfeed or allow your pet to become overweight or obese. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them in most short-haired dogs and cats. Use similar criteria for long-haired breeds.

  • Most dogs are binge eaters and need to be meal-fed in limited quantities to maintain normal body weight. Most dogs will overeat if allowed unlimited access to food.

  • Do not allow large breed pups to become overweight as this increases the likelihood of adult skeletal problems. Lower fat formulas (above) are recommended.

  • Some small breed breeding females may be more sensitive to calcium and phosphorus levels than medium and large breed females. Proud Paws Ultra-Select dog food is recommended for small breed breeding females (less than 25 lb body weight)

  • Cats are meal-eaters and should have access to food several times daily.  Limit amounts at each feeding as needed to maintain normal body weight.

  • Regular veterinary checks are recommended for your pet.
